CASTLEPOINT COUNTY.

The ordinary meeting of the Castlepoint Council was held on Saturday last. All the Councillors were present. Correspondence was read aa follows:—Prom the Treasury, applying for returns po end of March; from the Chief Engineer of Roads for a list of all bridges over twelve feet span; from the Wairarapa District Hospital Board, requesting the attendance of the Chairman at a Conference to be held on July Ist; from the secretary to the Telephone Company, on the matter ol having the County office connected; from the Charitable Aid Board, with Miss Kirk's report, on the distribution of • charitable aid; from the Tiusteea of the late Hon. W. W. Johnston, on the deviations made in the road down the Whakataki, and fencing same. The Councillors for the North and Eaa t Ridings were appointed to go over the Whakataki Valley Road with a view of coming to an amicable agreement in respect to the land and fencing, where deviations are necessary, A petition was received from four ratepayers for a special loan to be raise 1 to erect a bridge at Meldrum, over the Taueru river, in conjunction with the Masterton County Council. It was decided to survey the deviation at; Annedale, to avoid three river crossings. The Clerk was directed to adjust all the special rates on the recent valuations made on the unimproved values. Tenders wore authorised to be invited for the formation of the principal lengths of the Whakataki-Castle-point Road. It was resolved that the matter of ompensation for land taken for t.ie road out of lot 3, Native Reserve, be dealt with at once. The Clerk wad directed to apply for thirds due on section 14, Block X., Aohanga, to erect a small bridge over a creek near the boundary. Accounts amounting to £179 19s 2d were examined and passed for payment. A special rate of l-20th of a penny in the £ was struck to meet interest and other charges on a loan of £2,000 to form and metal the foad down the Whakataki Valley.
