VICTORIA'S ACTION
"DISTINCTLY. UNFRIENDLY."

The Cape Premier (Mr Merriman) and Dr Smartt, ex-Commissioner of Public Works, cabled Mr Deakh, Ferleral Premier, that Victoria's attitude regarding South African fodder was considered distinctly unfriendly and might lead to unfortumte reprisals. Received July 1, 11.2 p.m. SYDNEY, July 1. Reuter's correspondent at Capetown reports tha*. a meeting of representatives of Australian business houses, trading in Capetown, resolved to cable to Mr A. Deakin, as follows: "That this meeting is of oninion that the Australian Governrnsnt could, with perfect safety, accept the assurance and guarantee of the Cane Government that fodder from Capetown waa free from disease; and that its prohibition caused friction, and will very much injure Australian trade in South Africa."
