"DAILY MAIL" COMPETITION. WON BY EAST LONDON. Received July 2, 12.50 a.m. LONDON, July 1. The East London Club (Cape Colony) with a score of 824 out of a possible 840, won the "Daily Mail" 200 guinea cup. There were 612 entries.

The Kailway Works Club (Brisbane) with a score of 807 was second, and Bendigo (Victoria) 798 third.

The East London Club also won the 50-gujnea cup for the best score outside of the United Kingdom.

The following is the result sof the rifle competition for the Government prize medals for 1908-9: Gold medal for the best shot in the North Island:— Private George Farley, Victoria Rifles, 54—possible 5(5; gold and silver medal for the second best shot in the North Island, Private T. A. Marett, Taranaki Rifles, 51; silver medal for best shot in the Auckland District, Private J. H. Parslow, No. 3 Company, Ohinemuri Rifles, 51; silver medal for the best shot in the Wellington district, Corporal A. H. Armitage, Taranaki Rifles, 50; gold medal for the best shot in the South Island, Sergeant C. A. Hadfield, Blenheim Rifles, 55; gold and silver medal for the second best "hot in the South Island, Sergeant H. E. Soper, Marlborough Mounted Rifles, 54; silver medal for the best shot in the Nelson district, Corporal J. Webster, Denniston Rifles, 54; silver medal for the best shot in the Canterbury district, Sergeant A. J. Whitley, Kaiapoi Rifles, 53; silver medal for the best shoe in the Otago district, Corporal R. Smithers, Oreti Rifles, 53.'

EMPIRE CADET COMPETITION.

OAMARU, July 1

The North School Cadets, to whom was delegated the duty of representing, the .Dominion in the Empire Cadet Shooting Competition, fired to-day in weather that was none too favourable. The conditions were seven shots kneeling and seven shots lying at 25yds, with miniature rifles. The possible is 1,120. The North School team put on 736 at a six-inch target.
