MrW.A. Scott, formerly on the staff of the Masterton Post Office, and now Postmaster at Utiku, is on a visit to Masterton.
Mr J. Halligan, late .Rabbit Inspector at Masterton, and now Stock Inspector at Johnsonville, is to be the recipient of a presentation made 1 by farmers of this district to-day.
Mr Patrick O'Connor, one of the oldest settlers of the Tinui district, died suddenly yesterday The deceased, who was 67 years of age, had been ailing for a number of years. A widow and five sons are left to mourn their loss The funeral will take place at Tinui on Friday, at 2 o'clock.
Mr W. J. Winslade, Secretary of Opaki Rifle Club, who received a severe injury to his knee-cap, several months ago, and which has incapacitated him from work up till the present time, is now recuperating at Wanganui, and a letter received in Mastorton yesterday stated that he was rapidly regaining tne use of his leg.
The children and grand-children of Mr and Mr.j TV B. Harding, _ of Greenmeadows, will assemhlj from all parts of the Dominion, to-day, to pay their respects to ihe old couple on the occasion o* their diamoi.d wedding (60 years), says lhe"Hawke's Bay Herald." Mr and Mrs Harding arrived in New Zealand in 184S, and in Hawke's in 1859, where they have since' resided. 'lhe old people are still hale and hearty, notwithstanding that they are both 85 years of age, and are lookir g forward to meeting their friends.
