MAURICEVILLE NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the local Social Club was held last Tuesday. The balance-sheet showed a small Credit balance. Officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows : President., Mr C. Brooks; secretary, Mr F. Martin; stage manager, Mr Turnur; custodian, Mr B. Hillas; programme committee Messrs Brooks, Tumor, J. McKenzie, W. Fisher and F. O'Connor. It was decided to open the season with a variety entertainment on Friday,. July 24th. Five new members were elected. The committee met afterwards and drew tip an attractive programme. The evening's entertainment will conclude with a dance. The C'Hib, which has been considerably strengthened by new members, intends to give a number of entertainments during the wintar, the object being to provide a piano for the Town Hall. T he Hastwell Band will occupy our local Hall next Friday, July 3rd, and ■«• have arranged a splendid concert proL gramme: a dance will afterwards be Jbkl. On the following Friday (July ■.' «fttlw the Mauriceville West residents •*-.*«vill give a concert and dance. ™ A football match was played here las'; Thursday, between teams representing Mauriceville and Mauriceville West. ,A very enjoyable game-re-ultdd in a win for Mauriceville by six points to three. Mr W. Fisher, local baker, had the misfortune to loie v valuable trap horse last Saturday. The animal by s.rnie means got out of the stable and was discovered in the morning suffering from inflammation. The horse died shortly afterwards. The local Rifle Club journeyed to Wellington last Friday to fire a return match against the Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifles, and were defeated by 42 points.
