LOCATION OF PARLIAMENT.
Indications are that much will be said this session on the subject of the site Of the new Parliament Building. It is understood that the Government has a scheme for removing the buildings to the site now occupied by Government House and utilising the old Parliament Buildings site in Molesworttt Street for the Government offices, the suggestion being that the site of the old Government Bu I lings on Lambton-quay could be lessed to advantage, and that the resultant income would go far to minimise the cost cf the alteration. Nothing definite has, of course, so far been put forward, but it is evident that many members are already ' apprised of the position, and that it is probable a large building proposal will bo put forward. As the refeult of enquiries, says the "Post," it would appear that a large number of mem- era are averse to incurring the expense which would be entailed by any cliangu of site—other than has te:n incurred already. Stiict e. -, quiries will also be made as to the Cost of stopping the contract fur the Sydney Stieet. extenJor,. That, it is ?.2l A , Will run into sever?! thousands cif.ounds. The whole question as to whether the new buildings ar"e to be erected on the eld site or j Government Hcuse bite will be referred to a select committee of the House. As to the suggestion, seriously made in some quarters, that the capital should be trans-, ferred to some inland site, the general body of members is avers j to the proposal. Wellington is ths natural site, and no alteration will be seriously considered.
