MASTERTON FIRE BOARD.

ANNUAL MEETING. : m he annual meeting of the Masterton Fire Board was held last evening. There were present:—Messrs O.N. L. Pragnell (chairman), J. H. Pauling, W. Morris, and J. C. Ewington. Leave of absence was granted to the Insurance Companies' representatives. The meeting re-elected Mr Pragnell to the chair for the ensuing year. it was resolved that the Borough Council be asked to grant a permanent position to Mr J. Stewart, the newly-appointed fire station keeper. As no tenders were received for the supply of horses for the use of the Brigade, it was decided to ask the Council to continue supplying horses until a different arrangement could be made. The Board decided to inspect a number of properties offered them for the purposes of erecting a fire station.

Mr P. L. Hollings wrote accepting the office of solicitor to the Board.

A letter was read from Mr T. Jenkins stating that his employers offered no objection to his being appointed Superintendent to the Brigade.

The taking over of; the Fire Police plant wa=* then discu3sed, Captain «L, Dixon and Secretary Wilton being in attendance. These delegates explained that the corps was of the opinion that the amount of £ll9, the valuation of their plant, F.houll be paid to them personally, as the property belonged co them, and unless the money was so paid the Corps would net continue. Captain Dixon explained that the Fire Police owed about £9O, and the £llO, if paid, would be expended in liquidacir.g this amount, and the balance in the purchase of: uniforms, which the corps was agreeable should become the property of the Board. The meeting . decided to pay tli i amount of the valuations as desired by the Corps, on the conditions agreed to by the Fire Police. The local members of the Board were appointed an executive committee until the next Board meeting.
