In tie Supreme Couit, this jnorning, Mr Wesfriti asked Mr Justice Edwards if, for the conveiience of the legal profession, and the public, he could fix the order in which business before the Cour f would be taken. His Honor l-eplied that business must go in the order in which it was set down. He wonld be only too glad to help counsel and the public if he could, but his time was limited. His own convenience was never considered. After finishing the sitting at Auckland on Saturday he had to leave on Sunday for New Plymouth. His Honor added that he wished to leave New Plymouth on Thursday, if possible, or Friday at the latest, as he was due in Wellington on Saturday to attend the Court of Appeal, Mr Weston said he was aware that owing to the scandalous under-) manning and overworking of the Supreme Court Bench his Honor's time was very limited. Reginald Surrey, charged with the theft of a steer from Eltham, was acquitted, the jury intimating that they hact no desire to call' on the defence. At the. conclusion of this case there was a demonstration in the Court, brisk, applause testifying to the- popularity <>! the jury's verdict. The Judge called loudly to tne constables to briwg thu offenders before him, and a wtll-known Mokau ?ettler was marched up and summaiil.' fined forty shillingF, which was promptly paid.
