Only slight hopes are held out for the recovery of Mrs Tunniclifff, o£ Dalefield, who is lying seriously ill. MrS. C. Wilkes,• representing Mr W. B. Hearne, Geelong (Victoria) is at present on a business visit to Masterton. Mr Chas. G. Monro, architect, of Maste*ton, has received woid that he has be».n elected a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects. The Rev. G. S. Compton, F.A., Principal of the Clareville Maori College, and Mrs Compton, will leave next month, en route for the Old Country. Mr Compton's successor, the Rev. H. F. Stealey, M.A., of Otaki, will arrive early in the month to taltc charge of the College.
Mr Alec Verne, representing Rupert Clarke—John Wren-Meynell and Gunn's Company, arrived in Masterton yesterday, to make arrangements for the visit hero on Monday, July 13th of that firm's "Harcourt BeattyMadge Mcintosh Company." The play that is for presentation in Masterton is the romantic historical drama, "A Beggar on Horseback."
At the meeting of the Fire Police, last evening, Captain Dixoli, on behalf of the members, presented Mr A. Wilton (secretary), who was recently married, with a silver tray, suitably tngraved. In making the presentation, Captain Dixon referred to the excellent service Mr Wilton had rendered to the Fire Police in the past Mr Wilton suitably responded an;J afterwards entertained the members at a social evening. A lengthy pre.gramme of songs and musical item 1 : was rendered.
