A DISABLED SCOW.

BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION , WELLINGTON, June 28. The scow Whangaroa, bound from Wauganui to Sydney, with timber, was picked up disabled by the Westport Company's steamer Regulus on Friday evening, and towed to Wellington, reaching here yesterday evening. _ \ The Whangaroa left Wanganui on June 3rd, and met with fair weather till the 9th, when a heavy gale sprung up accompanied by fierce squalls. At 3 a.m., on the 10th, the three masts went without warning. For ton days the scow drifted aimlessly at the mercy of the fierce elements, and during this time the crew performed the difficult task of clearing the vessel of wreckage. The Whangaroa was then jury-rigged, and meeting with favourable weather began to make her way back to New Zealand slowly, but on the whole satisfactorily. On the 20th the steamer Whangape, bound for Sydney, was sighted. The Whangape could not tow the scow back to New Zealand, and having ascertained that the disabled craft was sufficiently provisioned promised to report her to the owners (E. D. Pike and Co., of Sydney). By Friday last the Whangaroa was off Cape Farewell. Then the wind set in from the east, and all on board were relieved when the Regulus was sighted. The Kegulus, which was bound from Westport to New Plymouth with coal, made fast to the Whangaroa, and succeeded in making Wellington without mishap.

Captain W. Harris and his crew are all well. After the loss of the masts about 15,000 feet of timber was lost overboard or jettisoned.
