CONGREGATIONAL SOCIAL.

The members of the Congregational Church held a social in the Dominion Hall last evening, when a welcome was extended to the Rev. A. Hodge, Congregational minister at St. Clair, Dunedin. Mr J. Hunter occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance. During the evening the following programme was rendered: — Song, "Fisherman and His Child," Miss C. McEwen; recitation, "My Lady's Leap," Mr O'Hara; song, "The Beggar Maiden," Miss C. Joy; song, Miss G. Joy; song, "The Old Brigade," Mr J. Nicol; recitation, Mrs Thoutnine; song, "The Link Divine," Miss Jackson, with violin obligato by Miss V. Jackson; song, "Sing Mo to Sleep," Miss B.Joy; duet, "Life's Dream is O'er," Mys Redman and Miss Jackson; son?, "Queen of the Earth," Mr O'Hara. A brief spepch was given by Mr J. Hunter, in the course of which he said it was very probable—and all hoped earnestly it would come to pass—that the Rev. Hodge would be the resident minister of the Church in Masterton.

. The Rev. Hodge then gave a very interesting address on the functions of the Church, and he exhorted his hearers to pray earnestly that the work of the Church would prosper in Masterton, and that whoever was appointed to the charge\of the pastorate would be blessed in nis labour.

An address was also given by Mr F. T. Redman.

An excellent supper was provided, and a very pleasant evening concluded with the singing of the "Doxology."
