MASTERTON'S "WELCOME" FLAG.

AN APPROVED SUGGESTION

PUBLIC ANXIOUS TO SUBSCRIBE. In view of the fact that the Masterton Borough Council was unable to see its way to sanction any expenditure in regard to the Premier's proposal that the different towns in the Dominion should each send a "welcome" flag to Auckland on the occasion of the visit by the American Fleet, we suggested in our issue it yesterday that the necessary funds should be raised by public subscription. A subscription list was accordingly opened at this office for the purpose mentioned. The ready response made by many residents yesterday shows tha*; our suggestion hi generally approved of. Subscriptions were received as follows: —
