A SAD CASE. Received June 26, 0.30 a.m. HOBART, June 26.

The hoy Davis appeared at the Criminal Court charged with murdering his little stepbrother. He presented a pitiable spectacle. The Judge and Attorncy-Gereral conferred. The former said that apparently the boy did not understand the proceedings. He had been born in unhappy circumstances, and ' had lived in the backblocks all his life. With the consent of the parents, thn boy was handed over to the neglected children's department, and a nolle prooequi entered.

KAURI TIMBER COMPANY

At the half-yearly meeting of 'he Kauri Timber Company, the chairman stated that business generally had been well maintained, and that there was no ground for ui easiness regarding the prospects. Re-valua-tion of properties was proceeding, and the result would be kno"'n in the next balance-sheet. The company had paid off its debt of £46,000 on July Ist.

The Mount Lyeil returns from 21st May till 17th June (inclusive) show that 30,967 tons of ore were treated, also 512 tons of purchased ore. The converters pro.luced 750 tons of blister copper, containing 740 tons of copper, 54,184 ouncps of silver, and 1,452 ounces of gold.
