MASTERTON SOUTH BAND.
COSTUME FOOTBALL MATCH AND SOCIAL. The weather was not of a favourable nature yesterday afternoon for the costume football match held on the Showgrounds between the members of the Masterton South Brass Band and a scratch team, but, nevertheless a satisfactory result was achieved. The match was preceded by, a procession composed of the Band, attired in various grotesque costumes, the members having taken considerable trouhle to make their appearance as effective as possible. The match was very amuaing to witness, "women" players taking a prominent part, and resulted in the Band being victorious by 8 points to 6. F. Harding scored a try for the winners, J. Bentley converting, and V. Williams kicked a penalty goal. For the losers Wickens and Smith scored tries. The social in the <veniner was a really enjoyable affair, and was well attended. An energetic committee of ladies had provided an excellent supper, assisted by generous public support, while the floor was in capital order. Musical items were given by Miss Graham and Mr R. Russell. Extras were played Misses Graham and Davidson and Mr T. Ellers. The Ladies' Committee was composed of Mesdames Williams, Andrews, Harding, Wilton, T. and G. Braggins, Gooding, Clarke, Graham, Miss E. Harding. The music was aupplied by Mr Reihana Boycs' orchestra.
