It appears that Pi-icorrlbe, who shot Robinson, an' Anglican lay-reader, and was himself s>hot by a constable, conceived a hatred of cleigy through his wife being a lunatic, suffering from religious mania. She w:is released from an asylum as a probationer, hut was re-committed, having during her release chopped off her right hand hecause it had offended her. Pincombe had sent threatening letters to a local Catholic priest.
