"A Convention of 700 Republican "delegates supporting Mr Taft's ■election to the Presidency, elected iSenator Lodge permanent Chairman. Senator Lodge, in his speech, ■eulogised President Roosevelt's He described President Roose- **"' ve'lt as the best abused and most PTAfar man in the United States toHis remarks evoked a tremendous outburst of enthusiasm lasting forty min.ites, and a demonstration in favour of renewing President Roosevelt's term, with insistent shouts of . "Four years more." Seiator Lodge, resuming his . speech,declared that Pr jsident Roosevelt's refusal to be ra-nominated for a furthr term waa on 3 of the loftiest of motives, and showed a notable loyalty to American tradition. His refusal was final and irrevocable. The cheering was renewed, and ;after formal business the Convention «adjourned.
