MASTERTON HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Mastertun Hospital Trustees was held yest'jnlay morning. There were present --Messrs J. B. Keith, M. J. Jackson, R. Brown, F. VV. li. Kummer, W. Fisher, W. Harris. The Treasurer reported a debit balance of £22 12s 2d, against which is a cheque for £3OO. just received from the District Board. The receipts since last meeting amounted to £146 0" Sd, the disbursements beirg £251 16s Id. . The Hospital diary was read and showed that 25 patients were in the institution at last meeting. 33 had since been admitted, 27 discharged, leaving 31 regaining. The Secretary of the Master ton Friendly Societies Council forwarded a cheque for £B2 18s Bd, the nett proceeds of Hospitil Saturday and Sunday. The Trustees passed a hearty vote of thanks to the Friendly Societies and all who assisted in the function. It was resolved to procure expert advice on the hot-water system at the Hospital. Mr H. J. O'Leary was instructed to supervise any work done in connection therewith. It was reported by the Secretary that patients were being sent to the Hospital without a doctor's certificate. It was decided to draw the attention of medical officers to the regulation in this respect. The Chairman and Mr O'Leary were deputed to wait upon the Borough Gas Committee to request the Committee to make a reduction in the price of gas supplied to the Hospital.
The action of the Chairman in accepting the tender of Messrs Ogilvy and Sons for the supply of meat to the Hospital was approved. Messrs Harris, Jackson and O'Leary were appointed to attend to the laying off of the new road to the Hospital grounds. Mr Fisher then moved the motion, notice of which had been given at lh3 lust meeting, ibat the agieement with the present medical staff be terminated at the end of the current financial year. Mr Fisher said that, his sole object was to have a better arrangement made at the end of the year as regards the remui evation of the medical staff. He said there was no doubt the medical superintendent was undoubtedly entitled to greater remuneration than the other medical staff. There was no discussion on the motion, which was seconded by Mr Harris, and carried unanimously. Accounts amouting to £153 9s lid were passed for payment.
