Messrs Semple and Hickey, organising delegates (representing the State Mine and Blackball Unior.s). addressed a meeting of the Dennistciv Miners' Union at Denniston on June 14th, on a proposed scheme of federation as endorsed by their respective unions. Mr Foster, the presicLnt, was in tlie chair. After heaving addresses by 'he delegates, the following resolution was unanimously passed:—-"That this meeting fully endorse the scheme of federation as advocated by delegates, and that a ballot be taken on Tuesday morning for the purpose of Retting a general expression of opinion on the matter." It was further decided to appoint a delegate to act in conjunction with Messrs Semple and Hiekey in their visits to the Granity and Mokihinui Unions, and Mr Foster was elected to that position. It is the intention of the del:gat3M, after visiting the vario.is unions in the Westport district, to return by way of Reefton, addressing meetings both there and at Otira. Judging from the result of the reception accorded at Denniston, it augurs well for the ultimate success of the mission.
