PERSONAL.

Mr J. 0. Considine, of Maryborough, is seriously ill. The death occurred in the Wellington Hospital on Friday last of Mrs W. Tweedale, of Morison's Bush. Mr D. J. Cameron, of Mastorton, will leave shortly for Wellington, where he intends to reside for some considerable time. Recent arrivals in London from New Zealand include ivlr and Mrs Cockburn-Hood (Wairarapn), who have just taken a flat at Kensington, writes a London correspondent. Mr Crowther, of the Fcatherston Railway stall", has been tvansferrud to Masterton. Ho has been succeeded by Mr J. Bailey, of Wellington.

Sub-Inspector O'Donovan, of Wellington, is to be placed in charge of Palmerston North police sub-district. Station-Sergeant N. J. Phair, of Wellington, is to be raised to the rank of sub-inspector, and Sergeant Darby, of Thame?, is to be made a station sergeant in Wellington. Ex-Captain H. L. Michel, captain of the Hokitika Fire Brigade for twenty-seven consecutive years, also ex-president of the United Fire Brigade's Association, and now chairman of the recently-constituted Hokitika Fire Board, was entertained at a "social" on Monday nielit by members of the Hokitika Fire Brigade, and presented with a beautiful illuminated address. The proceedings were most enthusiastic, the j>uest receiving many congratulations from all parts of the Dominion on his record term of service.

The death is announced of Mr James Sellar, a well-known contractor at Taradale, Hawke's Bay. The late Mr Sellar was born at Paterhead, Scotland, 69 years ago, and was the eldest son of the late Captain Sellar, of that place. He came to New Zealand over 35 yearn ago. He built and was captain of the first steamer on Lake Tauno, afterwards going to Napier, where he engaged in building and contracting. Many fine structures were built by him, among the most important works being the birge cylinder bridge at Wairoa nnd the Glasgow wharf, Napier. He leaves a widow and family of (ive snns and four daughters.

Mr W. Kernble Welch, (Masterton, New Zealand), writes a London correspondent under date May Bth,has just returned frj London after having spent seven months in America, where he took a specialist course in dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania, and later did more extra work with three specialists ccnrccted with the Ur.iversity. Prior to goicg to America Mr Welch was j tucking at the National Dental Hospital, and he is now there again for a few weeks. He has taken his outward passage to New Zcalat.d by the P. and 0. steamer Mongolia, sailing on the 3rd July, and he expects to he home again about the beginning of September. Mr Welch hopes to see sonicthing more of England, and to see various relatives and friends before the date of his departure.
