SOLWAY SHOWGROUNDS.
VISITED BY ASSOCIATION MEMBERS. A very large numoer of members of the Masterton A. and P. Association —probably GO, all told—visited Solway, yesterday, to inspect the new Showground, and to make sug gestions as to the laying-out of the grounds. The President of the Association (Mr J. D. Cruickshank) invited a full and free discussion on the views of members, and the result was that some vei-y interesting speeches wove made, Messrs J. McGregor, D. McGregor, W. Perry and the Very Rew Dean McKenna contributing eminently practical suggestions. The majority of thosa present were strongly in favour of the ring being located in the paddocks to the east of the bush, the grandstands to be erected facing the north, with their backs facing Messrs Judd Bros' property. If this could be conveniently accomplished the general feeling was that the utmost effect could be derived from the presence of the pretty native bush and the natural terrace could also be made the fullest use of. A motion to this eii'ect was put to a meeting of those present, and was carried. Of course, the motion is not binding on the Ground Committee, but is merely in the nature of a recommendation.
A number of South Wairarapa members were present, and were most enthusiastic over the beauty of the surroundings, considering that the Show would simply boorn v/hen the change of venue was finally accomplished, and the contemplated improvements envied cut.
