COUNTRY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION.
The Wairarapa School Committees' Association, which holds its annual meeting on Wednesday, might with advantage give serious consideration to a number of resolutions passed the other day by a kindred organisation in the South Island—the Country School Committees' Association. These resolutions, which were published in Friday's issue, touch upon some fundamental principles of country school administration, and indeed the education service generally. For example, they resolved that the Government be urged to make more adequate provision for the payment of teachers in country districts, fix a
minimum salary, and give increments for good service. Then they affirmed that Education Boards and Com mittees, from their local knowledge, are best qualified to; make provision for conveyance of children. The salaries and staffing of High Schools, question of travelling allowances,, classification of schools,, were other points of paramount importance to rural communities which the South Islaivi' Association referred to dealt with. It is in our weak educational system in country districts that the need of local Government reform is made mora apparent, perhaps, than in any other branch of the civil administration and the local Association can give valuable 1 support tc its southern contemporary body by discussing the latter's programme, and approving of such portion, as it feels in sympathy with.
