MODERN RIFLE SHOOTING METHODS.

It is earnestly to be hoped that the Executive Council of the New Zealand Rifle Association will notdi - play their usual hesitation in sanctioning the use of the latest and best of the many devices used by riflemen to insure acurate shooting—the McCalley detachable traversing: ladder wind gauge elevator. This very ingenious and daily used appliance has been adopted at Bisley, in Canada, and in the Commonwealth, and the greatest success has alway9 attended the efforts of riflemen who have used it. The function of the invention is to alio"/ of the back-site of the rifle being adjusted both as regards elevation and windage without the use of any separate accessory. Hitherto the ordinary back-site has been used, the vernier being employed to give both elevation and windage. The vernier, however, is a delicate instrument to handle, and the frequent alteration of the windage line means a serious loss of time in a match. The McCalley invention

is a marvel of compactness and simplicity, and as it brings rifle-shooting a good many steps nearer to service conditions, its adoption at Trentham should be immediately authorised. . ; - :
