EARL OF DUDLEY.
HONOURS CONFERRED. Received June 4, 8.15 a.m. LONDON, June 3. The Grand Cross of St. Michael ar.d St. George was conferred on the Ei rl of Dudley. In accepting the freedom of Bristol city, Lord Dudley assured the Mayor and City Council that he regarded the gift as a graceful compliment to the Commonwealth. He would do his best to promote a feeling of sympathy between all parts of -the Empire. COMBATTING OF HUGE TRUSTS. Received June 4, 9.15 a.m. LONDON, June 3. Lord Dudley, addressing a gathering of Bristol commercial men, remarked that many English industries could not flourish if they acted together without petty jealousies, in order to combat huge trusts and foreign competition. He believed Bristol was admirably situated to secure a larger share of Australian trade.
