A SUSPICIOUS FIRE.
BY TELEGRAPH —I'KESS ASSOCIATION. NELSON, June 3. About 9.30 last night The Beasons, a nine-roomed residence at the foot of Britannia Heights, The Port, occupied by Colin Campbell and family, and owned by Richardson's Estate, was destroyed by fire, making the third fire at The Port in ten dayf. Mrs Campbell and niece were in the house at the time, the others being away at a concert in town. A gardan hose which had been connected earlier in the evening was found to have been mysteriously disconnected, consequently there were no means of checking the spread < f the flames, which broke out. in the draw-ing-room. It was some time before the fire alarm was received in town, and the water supply pressure \ as inadequate, little could be done 10 save the place. Some furniture was rescued, but the loss was considerable. Incendiarism is suspected in regard to the three recent fires, but there is no evidence beyond conjecture. The furniture was insured for £4OO in the Northern office. The house was also insured, but details are not available owing to the holiday.
