OLD AGE PENSIONS.
COMMONWEALTH SCHEME. BILL INTRODUCED TO FEDERAL HOUSE. Received June 3, 10.25 a.m. MELBOURNE, June 3. At an early hr.ur this morning the Old Age Pemi >ns Bill was presented to the Federal House. for every person who has attained the age of 65 years, or those who, being incapacitated from work, have ataintd the age of 60, and women of 60, to receive a pet:skn. Provision is also made lor pensions for invalids to come into operation by subsequent proclamation, under which every person above the age of 16 years, who is permanently incapacitated, shall receive a pension. The amount is fixed at £26 per annum. It is understood the annual cost of the scheme will be £1,800,000. Received June 4, 12.5S a.m. MELBOURNE, June 3. , Senator Groom, in moving the second reading of the Old Age Pensions Bill, estimated that the cost would be £1,600,000.
