NEW OYSTER BEDS.
For many years past the two extremities of the Dominion alone have been exploited for the supplies of oystei*3 for the people, and the luscious bivalve has been more or less of a luxury in the centra! cities and provincial towns. Wellington residents and those residing within reasonable train distance of the metropolis \vi!l A leam with pleasure that what appear to be extensive oyster beds have been discovered on the aouthern margin of Cook Strait. The trawler Nora Niven has just brought into Wellington a sample sack of oysters from that locality, and an extensive area of the oysterbearing ground has been acquired by a syndicate with the object of supplying the city and adjacent localities with the bivalve. It is further interesting to note that the Cook Strait oyster, while having the main characteristics of that of Foveaux Strait, is superior in quality, inasmuch as it is free from all traces of copper and is white and clean round the edge. Everyone will wish the new industry the fullest measure of success.
