HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
Bf TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, June 1. Tbs Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, datel London, May 30th:— There has been no alteration in the mutton market since last week. Shipments now arriving are very snail, but the prospects are favourable. The following are the current quotations:—Canterbury mutton and North Island 3&d, River Plate 3£d. ' The lamb market is firm, and there is a good demand for all lamb. Canterbury brands are quoted at s£d, and other than Canterbury at s|d. The beef market is dull. Hindquarters are quoted at 3§d, and foreqaartera 3d. „ The butter market is steady, and Home supplies are increasing. The choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at 109s (nominal), Danish 110s, Sibariari 100 a per cwt. The cheese market is dull, and declining, and Canadian s are hurrying forward supplies. New Zealand white make is quoted at 60s, and coloured ht 57b, and Canadian make 3 at 5Ss. Tne hemp market is very weak, wich nothing doing. The following ara the current quotations:—Good fair grade on the spot £26, fair grade ' on the spot, £24 103, fair current Mmila on the spot £24 10s, May to Julv shipments are quoted as follows: —Gjod fair grade £26 10s, fair grade £24 15s, Pair current Manila is quoted at £24 15s. Tne cocksfoot seed market is firm aid buyers are nut keen to do busin333. There are light stocks on hand, and bright clean 171b seed is quoted at 80s. Die wool sales closed with improved competition. The market is stronger, but the prospects are uncertain as a largo quantity is held, over. The folbwing are the estimatad values:— Superior Merino lid to Is Jd, medium BJd to 10Jd, inferior 5Jd to Bd, fine crossbreds (all grades) lOd to Is, medium 7Jd to 9Jd, coarse 5d to Bsd.
