Lyne stated that even if the Surplus Revenue Bill did not pass the Commonwealth would not pay the States three-fourths of the revenue balances for June. The sum of £250,000 was required for naval derence, and £220,000 for old age pensions. The intention was to transfer the June balances to a trust fund towards meeting the=e charges by the end of the year. The States would receive £261,000 above the three-fourthb. they were entitled to.
