The Gisborne "Times''' states that ;,it is probable Mr A. F. Matthews, a member of the Cook County Council, -and an old resident of the district, will contest the Bay-of Plenty seat ■at the next election. Mrs Cooper, wife of Mr J. (J. ■■•Cooper, Vice-president of the New 'Zealand Farmers' Union, 'is very ill Sft pre3ent, and until yesterday her condition was regarded as being critical. Mr Cooper has been unable to attend the Wellington Provincial Coriarenco of the New Zealand Farmers' Union owing to his wife's illness. Mr A. C. Pragnell, youngest son of Mr Wm. Pragnell, of Masterton, , was married yesterday afternoon to Miss Barbara ("Daisy") Gardiner, youngest daughter of Mr A. > Gardiner, of Taihape. Mr D. G. Brown acted as best man and Miss Mabel Morgan was bridesmaid. The ceremony was performed at the residence •of Mr T. M. Brown by the Rev. A. T. Thompson. Mr Pragnell, who is a member of the W.F.C.A. clerical 'Staff, was presented by the staff •with a silver entree dish, a.id the ■ W.F.C.A. Hockey Club gave him. a .•silver hot water jug. Mr J. HaTligan, who for eight •years has been connected with the lodal Stock Office, acting as Rabbit Inspector, has received notice of transfer and promotion to Johnsona ville, where he is' to act as Stock Jfc Inspector, During his residence in Masterton Mr Halligan has earned the deepest respect of all the- settlers within his district, and has at the same time carried out his duties in an impartial and conscientious manner. His practical knowledge of stock and farming generally has been ungrudinglv imparted to those desiring it, and his departure will be keenly regretted, though settlev-3 will be pleased to know that it carries with it substantial promotion.
