NEW ZEALAND FRUIT REGULATIONS. Received May 26, 10.25 a.m. SYDNEY, May 26. The Sydney "Morning Herald," commenting on the serious results to Now South Wales and Queensland from the New Zealand fruit regulations, says: "Of course, New Zealand is justified in seeing that she gets only clean fruit but this could ba done without putting an arbitrary stop to a shipping trade. We hope the Minister for Agriculture will be able to convince the dominion that less drastic regulations will ensure only clean fruit leaving New South Wales ports." A DIVORCE CASE. In the Poppens divorce case wherein Mr Prendergast, a member of Assembly, was made co-respondent, the court dismissed Prendergast from the case, with costs against petitioner, holding that there was no evidence against him. Petitioner admitted writing a letter withdrawing all the charges against his wife, and asking compensation from Mr Prendergast. THE BRAYBROOK INQUEST. Received May 26, 10 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 26. The inquest in connection with the railway accident' at Braybrook, was adjourned till 4th June to allow of a further test of the brakes being made. BANK-OF NEW SOUTH WALES. HALF-YEARLY MEETING. Received May 27, 12.51 a.m. SYDNEY, May 26. At tha half-yearly meeting of the Bank of New South Wales the net profits for the half-ytar were shown to be £156,741, which, with the balance from the last half-year, leaves £156,741 to be distributed as follows:—A dividend at the rate of 10 per cent.; carried to the raserve fund £30,000; carried forward £39,988. The President stated in his address that trade genera'lv throughout Australia and New Zealand was quiet, but might be considered sound.
