EMPIRE DAY.
PULPIT REFERENCES. Received May 26, 8.55 a.m. LONDON, May 25. Empire Day was celebrated yesterday by the display of many flags and thousands of pulpit references in London and provincial churches. There are many signs of popular dissatisfaction on account of the Government refusing to officially recognise the day. Received May 27, 12.10 a.m. LONDON, May 26. Three thousand Windsor scholars picnicked on the Royal grounds. Mr J. CarrutheT's, ex-Preimer of New South Wales, presented the school with a flag from the Windsor (New South Wales) school, stating that two million Australian children saluted the Union Jack on Empire Day. NEW SOUTH WALES CELEBRATIONS. A CADET'S COMPLAINT. ReceiveJ May 26, 10.25 a.m. SYDNEY, May 26. Tha celebrations here included illuminations of the war ships At the Parramatta school, where children delivered specehes, a cadet complained that they had not sufficient ammunition provided for the purpose of saluting the flag. It had to be done with Chinese crackers. He added:—"l tell you, we cadets are getting pretty disheartened." I'he day was enthusiastically celebrated in the other States.
