THE BENDIGO MURDER. MELBOURNE, May 23. Steps are be'ng taken to secure commutation of the sentence of death passed on Manning for the murder of his wife near Bendigo. A daughter of the condemned man declares that her father is not insane, but that it pays him to be insane just now. She asks:—"lf he was insane he would have killed my mother at home, and not lured her to a lonely spot." She adds: "I think he should be hanged—the wicked man. Ido not care what becomes of him so long as he is not let cut. Hanging would be a just punishment. He has broken up our home and taken the life of a loving mother and a good wife."
