A DHOW CAPTURED
BRUSH IN THE PERSIAN GULF. Received May 12, 8.30 a.m. LONDON, May 11. The cruiser Proserpine, in the middle of April, captured in the Persian Gulf an Afghan dhow containing 1,650 rifles and a million cartridges. Most of the weapons were of French manufacture. uwing to Afghan threats to destroy the English reservation at Jask, the cruiser Hyacinth landed marines and trained guns on the town. While the Proserpine was trying to intercept two suspicious coasters, Afghans, who were concealed, opened fire, killing a coxswain and seriously wounding another man. The marines still protect Jask.
