OLD AGE PENSIONS.
MR ASQUITH'S SCHEME
AMENDMENTS DESIRED
Received May 12, 8.30 a.m. LONPON, May 11. The friendly societies ask Mr Asquith, in awarding old age pensions, not to take into account income received from friendly societies or trade unions. Opponents ot the scheme declare that if the ted shillings limit is ignored for one form of thrift it must be ignored for others, like the Savings Bank.
The old-age pension scheme of the British Prime Minister provides that receipt of income over ten shillings a week shall disqualify a person from receiving an old-age pension. A superannuation allowance from a trade fund, however, will not disqualify, providing it does not exceed ten shillings a week.
