THE ELLIOTT BANKRUPTCY CASE.
STATEMENT BY PRISONER,
AUCKLAND, May 11. Elliott was a steerage passenger from Sydney by the Moana. On the boat being berthed, he went to the station and gave himself up ilyDurirg a few minutes' conversation Elliott stated that he had no difficulty in getting away unobserved. "Most of my time I was in Melbourne," he said, "and from there I had plenty of opportunities to go anywhere I liked to get clear away. When I got there, however, 1 decided I would not go any further. The suspense was awful, for one thing, and I couldn't stand it, so here I am. I gave myself up voluntarily to the police. If I had had any money when I reached Auckland I would have continued to Wellington, and given myself up there."
