A HUNGER STRIKE.
RUSSIAN PKISON REGULATIONS. PRISONERS' PROTEST. Received May 11, 10 p.m. ST. PETERSBURG, May 11. Political prisoners at Samara, and five hundred other prisoners, have declared a hunger strike as a protest against the drastic prison regulations. They have already fasted five days. One of the members of the Russian Duma recently received a letter from the political exiles in the Cherdin district of the Perm Government begging him to intervene on their behalf. They say that tl.ey number over 1,500, ur.il only an insignificant proportion of them receive the monthly dol-j of about 5s for food and clothes. The remainder are given no money for their maintenance. There havt. been numerous cases of "hunger typhoid," some with fatal results, and the exiles ack to be allowed to settle in the factory districts of the Perm Government where they can earn wages by manual labour.
