HOMING PIGEON RACE.

On Saturday, last the Masterton Homing Pigeon Club held a race from Waipawa, a distance (air-line) of about ninety miles. The weather was very unfavourable to the birds, as they had to face a strong' head wind the whole of the journey, combined with heavy showers, and the winning bird in negotiating the distance in a little over four hours put-up a meritorious performance. The second bird also flew well under the circumstances. These wei*e the only birds to "home." within the time limit. The others, however, struggled gamely home before dark. The following is the rasult:—Mr H.'F. Billington's Sout Star, 4 hours 5 minutes, 1 ; Mr- H W. Lett's Star Queen, 4 hours 5 minutes, 2.
