,/ DIAMOND JUBILEE. FESTIVITIES AT VIENNA. VIENNA, May 8. Emparor William of Germany, the King of Saxony, Wurtemburg, and many German Princes journeyed to Vienna, and. congratulated Emperor Francis-Joseph on his diamond jubilee.
Responding to the Kaiser's tribute to him as "a noble ruler, a true ally, and a mighty guardian of the peace," Francis-Joseph said he regarded Austria-Hungary's strength, like Germany's, as based on the monarchial principle, and the true and unchanging love of the people. "This day," said His Majesty, "fortifies me in the joyous expectation of an alliance purauing none but pacific endsy effectually assisted by similar efforts of other Powers, fully to accomplish "this object unto the remotest future."
The event was marked by popular rejoicings, and choral and other festivities.
King Victor Emmanuel of Italy, and other Sovereigns and heads of States, sent special messages to Emperor Francis-Joseph.
