METEOROLOGICAL.
Mr J. C. Boddington reports that the rainfall registered at Upper Plain for the 24 hours up to 9 a.m. on Thursday was 63 points. The rainfall at Castlepoint for April was 4.67 inches. Rain fell on 14 days . The maximum rainfall was on the 26th, when 1.27 inches was recorded.
At 9 a.m. yesterday Captain Edwin issued the following forecast for the subsequent 24 hours: — * Wind —Northerly heavy gale at all places northward of East Cape, Taupo and Cape Egmont, but westerly* heavy gale everywhere else. Barometer— Fall at all places northward of Lyttelton and Hokitika; rise from thence southward soon, and this movement will extend northward to Napier and New Plymouth after sixteen hours. Rain is probable everywhere, and rivers high on western coast. Warning signal for northerly gale is exhibited at Cape Maria Van Diernen, Tiritiri, and East Cape, Capes Campbell, Farewell Spit, and Foulwind, but westerly at Nugget Point, and this will be also shown after sunrise at Capes Campbeli, Farewell Spit and Foulwind.
