BRAVE PATHAN REGIMENT. TRIBESMEN'S RECENT LOSSES. Received May 7, 8.22 a.m. CALCUTTA, May 6. During the fighting at Landi Kolal, the 49th Pathans, with great dash, carried a strongly held crest commanding a British blockhouse. The regiment also, in conjunction with the Mun3ter Fusiliers, captured a series of ridges leading to the village of Kagala, where the severest fighting occurred. The tribesmen lost three hundred killed and as many wounded, at Shabkadar and Landi Kotal. BATTERY OF ARTILLERY RETURNING.

Received May 7, 11.25 p.m. CALCUTTA, May 7. A battery of artillery are returning to Peshawar. It is understood at Simla that the British are evacuating Khaibar under orders from England. The decision ia much discus&ed in Simla. As early as March the Afghan authorities on the frontier informed the Ameer that they had inadequate forces, that the Afghans were joining the Mohmands, and that 500 out of 1,500 militia were deserting with arms and ammunition. Received May 8, 12.12 a.m. CALCUTTA, May 7. Some of the contingents who attacked the British at Khaibar came from Tesin, 35 miles from Kabul. General Willcocks returns to Peshawar to-day. The forces are retiring on Alemasjid and Peshawar. Two mountain guns remain at Landi Kotal.
