NFW SOUTH WALES DEFEAT NEW ZEALAND. Received May 6, 9.37 p.m.' SYDNEY, May .6. The New ZeaLuiders played thair second match .against New Sju'-h Wales, and again suffered defeat by three points. The weather was fine, and the attendance large. Play was fast and interesting. The teams were as follow: - New Zealand—full-back, Turtill; three-quarters, W. Wynyard. Barber, Rowe; five-eighths, Tyler, R. Wynyard; half, Kelly; forwards, Gilchrist, Pearce, Mackrell, Trevarthen, Byrne, Wright. New South Wales Full-back, Whitfield; three quarters, Stuntz, Messenger, Devreux, Cheadle; halves, Dean, Holloway; forwards,. Graves, Jones, McCabe, Pearce, Davis, Mable.

The New Zealanders won the toss; playing with a stiff breeze iii their favour. They opened cleverly, and the pace was soon a cracker. Good even play resulted in Messenger marking in the outside 25. The shot went wide, and the Blacks pressed for some minutes. Then Holloway broke away, and Devreux raced in. Messenger's kick went ov«r the post. A few minutes later a second try was secured by Pearce, Messenger adding the goal. New South Wales, 8; New Zealand, 0. Messenger had two unsuccessful attempts at goal. Wright began a formidable attack, beating the whole of the New South Wales forwards, passed to J. Wynyard, who passed to W. Wynyard.
