STRONG BRITISH FORCE AT PESHAWAR.
Received May 1, 9.15 a.m. CALCUTTA, April 30. A great British force is concentrated in Peshawar, on the northwest frontier. This is likely to confirm the Afridis' attitude of abstention in retrard to the Mohmatuls. The Ameer and his officials are inert. Received May 1, .45 p.m. CALCUTTA, May I. Mohmand headsmen are coming to confer with the chief commissioner of the north-west frontier, hoping to avert further punishment. Received May 1, 10.20 p.m. LONDON, May 1. In the House of Commons, the Hon. H. H. Asquith, replying to Mr J. C. Lonsdale, said the Government admitted that the Afghans had joined the Mohmand raiders.
