WAIRARAPA AND EAST COAST P. AND A. SOCIETY.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society was held in the Produce Hall at the Showgrounds yesterday afternoon. The President, Mr H. McPhee, occupied the chair. On the motion of Mr H. R. Bunny, seconded by Mr W. C. Buchanan, a vote of condolence was passed in silence to the widow of the late Mr A. Anderson. Both gentleman paid a very high tribute to the valuable work done by Mr Anderson to the Society and the district generally, and to his independence of character. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The report was as follows: Your Committee has much pleasure in submitting the balance-sheet for the past year, and* desires to congratulate members on the very satisfactory position it occupies after thirty years' operations. You will notice that there is an increase in the overdraft at the end of the year of £4O. This, however, is qualified by the £303 of permanent improvements effected, thus practically showing a profit on the twelve months of £263. Your Committee is pleased to note that the membership steadily increases, though in a small degree. The work of the Ground Committee is outlined under the heading of permanent improvements, and all alterations and additions were well planned and efficiently carried out, under the supervision of Mr B. Allen. Your Committee regrets that the date of last Show clashed with the Show at Hawera, thus losing to the Society a few exhibitors from Palmerston and elsewhere, but it is pleasing to note that the entry fees show a considerable increase over those of last year—viz., £25. Show receipts are £36 Jess, but the decrease is mainly attributable to the change of arrangements in disposing of the privileges, which only realised £27. It is a great pleasure to report as to the gift? of valuable challenge trophies to the Society. Messrs Quibell Bros, donating a handsome challenge cup, which was alloted by your Committee to the most points in any one breed of pure bred sheep, • and was handsomely won by Mr Perry. Mr D. Douglas gave a valuable challenge cup for competition for the most points in the Southdown classes. This was won by Mr J. Strang. Messrs W. C. Buchanan and H. R. Bunny donated a beautiful challenge shield for competition m agricultural work in the Wairarapa schools. This was won for the year by the Gladstone school with the maximum number of points.' Your Committee extends its hearty thanks on your behalf to the above donors, and all those who contributed towards the prize fund. Aleo tc the Judges and Stewards whose painstaking and efficient work assisted so materially towards the success of the Show. The president, vice-presidentp, treasurer, and auditor, and a proportion of the committee retire according to the rules, and you will be called upon to elect their successors. Details of the balance-sheet have already been published. Ths Chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Messrs Buchanan' and Bunny for the presentation of a beautiful challenge shield for competition among the Wairarapa schools. The motion way carried amid applause. Mr Bunny, in reply, congratulated the Gladstone school on being the first to win the shield.
