The Eight Hour demonstration was partly spoiled by showery weather. The speakers referred to the Braybrook railway disaster, and condemned the long hours worked by the enginemen.

Mr A. Fisher, Leader of the Labour Party in the Federal House, declared that the party was too modest. The unions throughout the Commonwealth must ask themselves at the next elec'.ion whether the Federal Parliament should receive increased power to pass industrial legislation.

Mr G. M. Prendergast, Leader of the Labour Party in the Victorian Parliament, declared that on all questions affecting workers the States have given up their powers to the Commonwealth.
