SENIOR FIXTURES.
MASTERTON V. GREYTOWN. The above teams met on tho Show grounds on Saturday afternojn, and
an interesting game resulted in the home team winning by 19 points to 8. The first spell saw Greytown have the best ot the play, individual members showing considerable clash. Their team included one or two of last year's crack juniors, and they acquitted themselves very well. Concerted passing rushes were frequent, and from one started by Jury, the ball passed through several hands, and N. ?keet scored for the visitors, 'B. Familton converting. The home forwards had evidently not got going until well into the spell. They tried to play to their backs, but the ball seemed to get Utile further than the five-eighth man, as a general rule. Eventually, however, Masterton forwards got more into their work, and Brenchley started a passing rush from a line out, which resulted in C. Ross scoring. The try was not converted. Masterton then had several shuts at penalty goals, one very easy one being missed. The spell ended without further score, the figures being—Greytown 5, .Masterton 3.
The home team played with the wind in the second spell, and infused much more life into their play in both divisions. The backs took full advantage of the touch line, and the fcrwaris kept on the ball continually. As a sequence Greytown's front rank died away. O'Leary received the ball early in the spell and passed to Winter, who raced across the line and scored. O'Leary converted. After a few minutes had passed O'Leary again was responsible for Winter registering a second try, the latter evading several backs to reach the line. This try was also converted. Shortly after O'Leary kicked a penalty goal, and A. Ross, from a forward rush, scored a try, which was not converted. Greytown then mustered up a little more energy, and Skeet picking up the ball raced down the touch-line and scored, the local backs being under the erroneous impression that he went out ofi bounds. This try was not converted. The game ended shortly afcer without further score. Mr E. McKenzie was referee.
