VISIT OF THE AMERICAN FLEET.

ADVERTISING NEW ZEALAND,

ATTORNEY-GENERAL'S VIEWS

By Telegraph —Presf Association. AUCKLAND, April 26.

The Hon. Dr Findlay, AttorneyGenera', expressed the opinion to a "Herald" reporter that Rotorua, from whence he had just come, ought to be made one of the features in connection with the forthcoming visit of the American fleet to Auckland.

"Speaking selfishly," the Minister remarked, "one can scarcely conceive a better advertising medium than to impress the officers and men of the fleet with the wonders of our thermal regions. America is very much nearer than England, and the stream of visitors from the United Sattes should increase faster irom the latter if this country is properly advertised. Though we have done a good deal towards advertising the dominion, anyone visiting England can see how enormously more effectively advertised Canada is, not merely by the newspapers, but by direct advertising in them and on the railways. Probably, too, the visit of the officers of the fleet to Rotorua might be made the occasion of inviting prominent Australians that would give further distinction to the event." Dr Findlay said that no doubt his suggestion came partly within the functions of the Auckland Committee, but he would represent his views to Cabinet. He added that aa far as he could ascertain, nearly all the northern members favoured the proposal that both Houses of Parliament should adjourn in order to take part in the reception of the fleet. Un the other hand, several southern members were opposed to the idea.
