NORTH WEST MANCHESTER ELECTION. Received April 24, 9.29 a.m. LONDON, April 2S. Mr Winston Churchill, who is seeking re-election for North-west Manchester on his elevation to Cabinet rank, has issued a writ for libel against the Manchester "Courier" for publishing letters accusing him of escaping from Pretoria through breaking his parole, and of deliberate lying on the question of Chinese labour in South Africa. A CONFIDENT FORECAST. Received April 24, 11.4 p.m. ( LONDON, April 24. The special correspondent at Man-1 Chester of the London "Times," giving the results of careful calculations, confidentally forecasts Mr Churchill's defeat. THE DEWSBURY CONTEST. Received April 24, 8.8 a.m. LONDON, April 23. The Irish Federation of Government Workers advised the electors of Dewsbury to vote either for Mr Boyd Carpenter, the Conservative candidate, or for Mr Ben Turner, who is standing in the Labour interest. Received April 24, 11.4 p.m. LONDON, April 24. Mr Waltsr Runciman has been reelected for Dewsbury. The polling was as follows: — Mr W. Runciman, Liberal 5,594 Mr Boyd Carpenter, Conservative 4,078 Mr Ben Turner, Labour 2,446
