TERRIBLE SNOW SLIDE.
RAILWAY CAR SWEPT AWAY. THIRTY JAPANESE KILLED. NEW YORK, April 17. A terrible snow-slide occurred in a canyon in the Rocky Mountains on Monday. It swept a portion of the railway track and a boarding car, used by employees, into the canyon. Thirty Japanese were killed. "GO2TE MAD." A NOTED SOUDANESE LEADER. CAIRO, April 17. Os>man Digna, the notorious lieutenant of the late Khalifa of the Soudan, who was imprisoned at Damuka, has gone mad. He declared that the English are God's scourge, and must be obtyed by Moslems. Osman Digna commanded the Mahdi'a forces for over sixteen years, and displayed great ability in manoeuvring against the AngloEgyptian forces. His most notable successes were in battles of El Teb, in which Baker Pasha was defeated, and of Tamanieb, in which the British were repulsed with heavy loss General Kitchener's operations in the Soudan broke the Mahdi's power, and Osman Digna, after several defeats, was eventually captured.
