KNOX CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL
ANNIVERSARY SOCIAL. There was a crowded attendance at Knox Sunday school, last evening, when the social in connection with the school anniversary was held. The chair was occupied fey Mr J. McGregor, who gave a resume of the work of the Sunday school during the year. He made particular reference to the influence of the work of the Sunday school, Bible class, and Christian Endeavour, in attracting members towards the church, and stated that the number added to the congregation by their influence was in the ratio of two to one against other sources of influence. The annual report and balancesheet was read, and showed that £7 5s lid of a credit balance wa* the result of the year's work, after considerable expenditure, including the addition of sixty new books to the library at a cost of £3 3s. The staff of teachers numbered fifteen, and scholars 141, the average attendance being nearly 70 per cent. In addition there were the Bible class scholars. A programme of musical items and recitations was then gone through by adults and children, to which the following contributed: —Alice Christian, Mr Gray, Ethel .Braggins, t Arnold Cork, Miss Cameron, Lucy McKenzie, Alice Bedford, Miss McGregor, Mabel Chappell, Nessie, Chappell, Mrs Tourrance, Chrissie Peters, Dorothy Cork, Connie Rayner. The Rev. A. T. Thompson gave an address, dealing with various matters connected with the work of the Sunday school. The appointment of Miss McLaughlin as absentee visitor was specially mentioned.
The following were the successful scholars in the Presbyterian examinations held last year Dorothy Cork, 78 marks; Reginald N. Wilton, 72 marks; Eileen Wilton and Helen McGregor, 60 marks; Alex. T. McKenzie, 50 marks; Doris H. Lett, Richard W. Chappell, Lauder Thompson, 55 marks: Gladys S. Cork, 54 marks. Following is the list of prize-win-ners among the scholars: — Infant Classes. Boys: Firsts—Nathaniel Miller 144; seconds—Harman Thompson 128, Stanley McEwen 123, Arnold Cork 121, Edgar Moore 110, Alex. McGregor 109; thirds —Willie Feast, 105, Leonard Price 95.
