UNREST IN PORTUGAL.
TWO SOLDIERS SHOT. Received April 10, 8.42 a.m. LISBON, April 9. Two soldiers were shot dead in the street in Lisbon last night out of revenge for the troops firing on the crowd during the recent riots. The assassin escaped. SEARCHING ENQUIRY NEEDED. SEVEN HUNDRED ARRESTS MADE. Received April 10, 8.35 p.m. LISBON, April 10. The Cabinet at Lisbon has ordered a searching inquiry into the riots. The allegation is made that the municipal guard fired a volley at unarmed crowds. The guard wounded five soldiers belonging to a detachment marching past San Domingo Square, which was the scene of the chief riot. It is stated that the guard then fired 170 shots, aiming generally at the ground. Seven hundred arrests have been made.
